NANCY MARIE DAVIS

still

walls
for rent
along with
ceilings
floors
locking doors
all wanting
to be more
becoming
less cared for
not the love
of someone
that owns
and owes
a place
still standing
even though

just me

I only needed
to heat some
left over, cold
kept, slow
cooked food.
No use entertaining
the idea of
entertaining.
All that small talk
and work with
wife-whipped
men, and the women
with heavy grudges
who won't let them dance.

move

a place
clean and light
to rest my head
each night
not many
things
just a few
and windows
for a view
of birds
and trees
with leaves

a place with
neighbors
that don't bark
or bite
but say hello
and act polite

a place
that is not
this place
for i must move
and look in the heart
to find
the groove
